📝 The Lagos context

Lagos offers one of the widest ranges of wedding venues in Africa, and the choice you make sets the tone — and much of the budget — for the whole day. At the top sit the marquee spaces: the big convention centres and five-star hotel ballrooms that host society weddings, with the capacity, parking, power and service to match and prices to reflect it. Below them is a deep middle market of dedicated event halls and banqueting centres, and beneath that the community, religious, school and estate halls that host the majority of everyday celebrations.

Beyond the four walls, a few factors decide what a venue really costs and whether it fits. Capacity is the first filter — over-booking a huge hall for a small guest list wastes money, while cramming a big crowd into a small space ruins the day. Then come the practicalities that Lagos makes unavoidable: guaranteed power and cooling, adequate parking, security, and whether the venue imposes its own caterers and vendors or lets you bring your own (in-house catering requirements can quietly become the largest cost of all). Weekend and Saturday dates carry a premium almost everywhere.

The practical way to choose is to match the venue to the guest count and the date first, then compare true all-in costs rather than headline hire fees. Ask each venue exactly what is included — power, service charge, security, cleaning, corkage — and what is restricted, because two halls with similar sticker prices can differ sharply once the extras are counted. Whether you want a grand convention centre, a garden setting, a hotel ballroom or a well-run community hall, Lagos has the option; the skill is reading the full cost and the fine print before you fall for the room.
