📝 The Lagos data reality
Glo built its brand as the "grandmasters of data", and per-gigabyte it is still usually the cheapest of the four networks in Nigeria — its large monthly and multi-month bundles routinely deliver the lowest price-per-GB in the market, which is exactly why data-hungry users keep a Glo SIM. If your priority is squeezing the most data for the least money, Glo is almost always in the conversation.
The catch, and it is a real one, is coverage and consistency. Glo's network is strong in Lagos and the major cities but thins out and slows down away from them, and even within Lagos speeds can be less reliable than MTN's or Airtel's at peak times. So the classic Lagos setup is a Glo SIM for cheap bulk data paired with an MTN or Airtel line for calls and rock-solid connectivity — dual-SIM playing each network to its strength.
Plans are bought and managed by USSD, the app or airtime conversion, with the usual validity windows to watch. After the 2024 tariff increase Glo's prices rose with the rest of the industry, but it has largely kept its position as the value leader on big data bundles. The bottom line: for heavy downloaders, streamers and anyone whose budget is measured in naira-per-GB, Glo is the default data SIM — just do not make it your only network.
