Solar Installation in Lagos — Packages, Prices, Payback
4 tiers from ₦350K Basic to ₦12M Off-grid · 30-48 month payback · top installers · ROI
Solar in Lagos is no longer ideology — it's arithmetic. At ₦1,255/litre petrol and ₦209.50/kWh for Band A NEPA, the payback period on solar has dropped to 30-48 months for most households. The question is no longer whether solar makes sense, but which tier matches your load and your budget.

What “solar installation cost” actually means
Search “how much is solar in Lagos” and you will see anything from ₦150,000 to ₦12 million. Nobody is lying — three different things are being sold under the same name: the installer’s LABOUR, a single COMPONENT, or the whole INSTALLED SYSTEM. Here is how they separate.
Two sites can quote “1kW” and “1kVA” and appear to describe the same system — they do not. kW describes the PANEL ARRAY; kVA describes the INVERTER rating. That single ambiguity is why the same small system appears as ₦450,000 on one site and ₦1.8 million on another. When comparing quotes, always ask which is being measured, and whether battery and labour are included.
Four questions to ask before paying a deposit
- “Does this price include the battery?” The battery is usually the single most expensive item, so a quote that excludes it will always undercut one that includes it.
- “Is the size you quoted the inverter or the panel array?” Ask for the array in watts AND the inverter in kVA, written separately.
- “Are labour and wiring included?” If not, expect them to add 10–20% on top of the component cost.
- “What is the warranty on each component?” Panels typically carry a longer warranty than inverters, and inverters longer than batteries — a single “5-year warranty” on the whole system hides which part fails first.
Component prices last verified 2026-05-14. Solar prices track the naira/dollar rate, so confirm current pricing with a dealer before budgeting. Note that the panel and inverter ranges come from two independent sources that agree, but the lithium battery range rests on a single source — treat it as indicative rather than a firm quote.
Installation quality varies widely in Lagos. Use installers with strong warranty terms and a live track record. Premium tier: Arnergy, Daystar Power, Lumos — expensive but the warranty is real. Mid-tier (good value): GVE Projects, Salpha Energy. Beware installers quoting unusually low: solar is a 15-20 year investment and installation quality drives lifespan.
Choose your model
Hybrid setups (solar + NEPA + occasionally generator for backup) are the practical choice for most Lagos homes. Cheaper to install, capable of handling peak loads solar alone cannot, and the grid acts as backup. Off-grid (Premium or Off-grid tier) is for those wanting complete independence — bigger upfront cost (₦2.5M-₦12M+) but no monthly NEPA bill or fuel.
Decision rule: if you can pay back the off-grid system within 6 years AND afford the upfront, off-grid wins long-term. If you want lower upfront and faster payback, hybrid is better. Most working Lagos solar installations are hybrid by default.
How long it takes to pay back
The calculation is straightforward: take your current monthly generator + NEPA bill, subtract what you''ll still pay after solar (mostly NEPA for hybrid setups), and that''s your monthly savings.
| Tier | Saves/mo | Payback |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | ₦15.0K | 30mo |
| Standard | ₦45.0K | 36mo |
| Premium | ₦80.0K | 42mo |
| Off-grid | ₦150.0K | 48mo |
The battery is 40-60% of your solar system cost. The wrong choice can halve your system''s lifespan.
Home solar + electric car can drop your monthly transport cost by up to 87% vs petrol.
