Methodist Boys' High School was founded in 1878 by the Methodist mission which had established itself in Lagos in the previous decade. The Broad Street site was the school's foundational location and remains the campus today — one of the few schools in central Lagos to maintain its original 19th-century location. Alumni across 146 years include Nigeria's first African chief justice (Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, class of 1918), multiple senior ministers, senior civil servants across the colonial and post-independence eras, and first-generation Nigerian barristers, medical officers, and journalists. The Methodist mission tradition produced a specific academic culture — Latin, mathematics, and rigorous English instruction combined with disciplined religious ethos — which the school largely maintains. The Old Boys Association is one of the more distinguished Nigerian secondary-school alumni networks and organises annual reunion services at the Broad Street site.

Admission process
JS1 entry via school entrance examination. Application fee ₦10,000. Methodist family priority. Sibling and Old Boys' children preference.
JS1 entrance examination held twice yearly — in April and September — covering English, Mathematics, and Bible Knowledge at end-of-primary level. Application fee ₦12,000. Methodist family priority is significant and documented. Sibling and Old Boys' children priority applies — approximately 40% of any Year 7 intake is legacy families. Common Entrance results considered supplementarily. SS1 transfer entry available for pupils moving from other mission schools with satisfactory JS3 results. Interview with the Principal for all shortlisted candidates plus a formal parent interview to confirm alignment with the Methodist mission ethos.

The Broad Street heritage campus is a compact urban site in central Lagos Island. The original 1878 Methodist chapel building was rebuilt in 1932 and again in 1962, but the current chapel structure preserves the original altar and pulpit. Facilities are urban-heritage in character: academic blocks organised across a compact plot, science laboratories, the chapel, an assembly hall (~250-seat), a library with a small heritage collection dating from the early 20th century, a computer laboratory, and outdoor sports areas (a small football pitch and basketball court). The Marina access route means daily pickup involves Lagos Island traffic; the school runs buses from Ikoyi, VI, and select Mainland routes. Power on Eko Electric grid with 80KVA generator backup.
