Yaba to Ikeja is one of the mainland's workhorse commutes — a straight run up Ikorodu Road and Agege Motor Road between Lagos's tech-and-student hub and its business capital, around 10km end to end. Off-peak it is a genuinely quick 20-30 minutes; at rush hour the same trip through Fadeyi, Onipanu and Palmgrove can double as the whole corridor funnels toward Ikeja. It is a route thousands of UNILAG graduates and young professionals run daily, moving between cheap Yaba rent and Ikeja offices.
Danfo dominates and is dirt cheap: buses marked for Ikeja, Ojota or Oshodi leave the Yaba stops near Tejuosho all day for a few hundred naira, with an easy change at Oshodi if needed. The Ikorodu Road corridor has BRT, but the useful Yaba-Ikeja legs still lean on danfo and, increasingly, keke for the shorter hops. Bolt and Uber are reasonable for the distance and worth it when you are carrying anything or the sky opens, though evening surge is real.
The practical wisdom is simple: this route is entirely about timing. Leave Yaba before 7 AM and you glide into Ikeja; leave at 8 and you crawl. Friday afternoons are the worst, and rain reliably doubles every number. For a young professional weighing Yaba's affordability against an Ikeja job, the commute itself is not the problem — the clock is.
