Yaba to Lekki stitches together two very different Lagoses — the crowded, creative mainland and the planned, moneyed peninsula — across the Third Mainland Bridge. It is around 18km, and the drive lives or dies by the bridge: off-peak, Yaba to Lekki Phase 1 is a smooth 30-40 minutes; in the morning crush it can be 90 minutes or more as the bridge and the Lekki toll approaches back up together.
There is no single clean public-transport line for the whole trip, so most commuters chain modes: a danfo or keke to a bridge-bound bus, then another danfo down Ozumba Mbadiwe and into Lekki, or a straight Bolt if the budget allows. Ride-hailing is the comfortable option and reasonable off-peak, but Lekki-bound surge during the morning rush is punishing, and the toll adds up over a month. For anyone doing this daily, a Cowry card and a tolerance for transfers keep the cash cost down.
The honest verdict: Yaba to Lekki is fine as an occasional trip and punishing as a daily grind. The people who make it work leave absurdly early — before 6:30 AM the bridge is nearly empty — or travel against the tide. For a Yaba resident with a Lekki job, the rent savings are real, but so is the bridge tax paid in hours, and only early starts make the maths comfortable.
